The trees are bare, we’ve all had colds, have you turned the heating on yet? Winter approaches with the year 'send. Come and warm your hearts and arses at our seasonal Sunday Circle Dance for an afternoon amble around the circle.
Pastoral psychedelic music and films to expand yer mind deep in the heart of South East London.
Proceeds going to the Peasant Farmers of Palestine Emergency Appeal.
LINEUP:
Strange Boy - Suitable for a Sunday service, Strange Boy will bring the sacred and profane to Circle Dance, playing songs from their forthcoming debut album Love Remains. The duo of Kieran Brunt and Matt Huxley (Muckers to you and me) bring velvet vocals, deep drones and a splash of synth as they sing songs of love and trouble.
Alula - Deep space listening for a Sunday in South Bermondsey, Alula combine tenor sax, piano, harp and electronics in a cascade of spiritual jazz-tinged improvisation. Prepare for takeoff with London-based artists Izz Karpel and Phoebe Coco.
Siwan Clark - Hauling her harp from Penarth to Peckham, Siwan Clark will be bringing Welsh-language folksong to the circle. Prepare to be transported by old tunes and seasonal strumming from our very own Celtic connection.
The Circle Dance String Band - a newly-minted, always-in-motion house band will send off the circle with a festive selection of free-form jams. What will it sound like? Come and find out.
As always, we will begin our party with a half hour of short films. Our friend Ellen Evans has put together a programme entitled Time Waits for No Man! There's nothing like Christmas to make us feel the steady march of the years. Here are some films ruminating the passing of time with joy and wonder. Season's greetings!
We encourage you to come down early to see these as it is always a lovely way to begin proceedings. We'll begin the screening at around 3, with everything else following on after that.
We know what you’re thinking - an afternoon event? You’re going to get hungry. So we’re excited to welcome back Suffolk circle dancer Biddle’s Bread to provide vegan soup and sourdough bread to keep bellies full at a low low price. Available until its not!
FUNDRAISER:
Peasant Farmers in Palestine Emergency Appeal.
Israeli offensives in Gaza and West Bank over the past month have not just targeted basic community infrastructure, but also the very essence of people's livelihoods.
A vast portion of the Gaza Strip’s agricultural sector, a lifeline for its population, is under threat, and thousands of farmers are being prevented from accessing their fields and land. Over 10,000 tonnes of fruit and more than 25,000 tonnes of vegetables are now unreachable.
The use of starvation as a weapon against civilians could not be clearer.
Last week, UAWCPal - the La Via Campesina member organisation in Palestine - launched an Urgent Appeal for displaced families in Gaza and 'Area C' of West Bank to provide immediate aid to and to restore agricultural land. We are happy to donate proceeds from the party to this vital cause. Solidarity not charity!
