Circle Dance Winter Party

Sunday 14th December, 2-8pm

Avalon Cafe, South Bermondsey.

Proceeds donated to Gaza Emergency Relief efforts.

We're back again at our beloved Avalon Cafe for the third annual seasonal Sunday Circle Dance Winter Party!

Come gather round the yule log as we reflect on how the year has gone and dance our way towards 2026.

What's on the bill?

Christmas in Utopia. It’s the most wonderful time of the year?? Christmas has always been a time of mixed feelings. With the spirit of giving comes worker exploitation, with compulsory joy comes alienation and with family and romance comes heartbreak and violence. At Circle Dance, we’re all about finding the potential for joy, collectivity and subversion in traditional forms of merrymaking. Join us for a session of Christmas consciousness raising, where we’ll explore what Christmas means to the Circle in 2025, and where we would take it in a socialist utopia...

Calliope. We welcome this experimental, multi-instrumental folk duo to the circle for the first time. Taking inspiration from folk traditions of the black diasporic trans-atlantic world, @calliope.theband blends salt-of-the-earth trad tunes, ancestral musical traditions and cosmic modernity to produce a subversive sonic space that challenges preconceptions of what folk music can be – proper Circle Dance tackle this!

Circle Dance String Band. We're firing up the house band for our annual seasonal sing-along. The christmas songs you know and love with a big fat fluoro makeover, played by some CD returning champs. Lyric sheets will be provided!

As usual, we'll be kicking things off with some short films for the early arrivals and our Circle Dance DJs will be playing deep dance music from near and far to move your hearts and arses across the afternoon and evening.

We'll be serving up hot and cheap vegan soup with big hunks of bread, plus our usual array of free fresh fruit and a few other goodies too.

Proceeds donated to Gaza Emergency Relief efforts. We've now been able to donate almost £7k to Pal orgs from these parties and we're not slowing down now.

Tickets are £10. As we've done for the last two dances, we're also offering a Solidarity Price ticket if you'd like to donate a little more to our fundraising efforts.

As ever, if you're ill, disabled or on UC but want to come, message us and we can sort you out. No one turned away for lack of funds.
